- Checklist
To compare mortgage rates in Canada, use at least two sites that show several lenders, with the same filters. Then have a lender or broker confirm the offer. Verified on 2026-10-13. QuebecTaux publishes this ranking and appears in it. We applied the same criteria to everyone. We describe only what each page shows and quote no rate, since rates change daily. Nine real pages, including ours, are ranked on five public criteria detailed in the first section. This list is informational, not an approval or a rate offer.
How we rank
Each site earns one point per criterion its page shows on 2026-10-13. An unstated criterion earns nothing, without proving absence. Here are the five criteria: (1) compares or gives access to several lenders; (2) available in French; (3) filters by profile (transaction type, down payment, term, etc.); (4) discloses a commercial tie (affiliation, sponsored offers, ownership); (5) rates viewable without an account. Ties are ranked alphabetically. No rate is quoted here, because rates change daily. See the pages.
1. MoneySense — meilleurs taux hypothécaires
The page, in English, is an editorial guide. It explains how rates are set and the difference between brokers and direct lenders, with a Ratehub-powered tool (price, down payment, term). It discloses affiliate links and the site's ownership by Ratehub. Link: https://www.moneysense.ca/save/mortgages/best-mortgage-rates-canada/. Score on our criteria: 4/5.
2. Ratehub — meilleurs taux hypothécaires
The page, in French, compares fixed and variable rates from major banks and other lenders. Filters cover transaction type, amortization, property use, CMHC insurance and region. A short questionnaire leads to a personalized quote. Link: https://www.ratehub.ca/meilleurs-taux-hypothecaires. Score on our criteria: 4/5.
3. WOWA — taux hypothécaires
The page gathers rates from dozens of lenders and brokerages, with filters (purpose, price, down payment, term, fixed or variable). Sponsored listings are labelled, a French toggle exists, and some rates require a free account. Link: https://wowa.ca/mortgage-rates. Score on our criteria: 4/5.
4. MortgageLogic.news — sondage des taux
The page, in English, compares advertised rates from banks and other lenders by term, mortgage type and province, separating insured and uninsured borrowers. It promotes a Pro subscription with access to more lenders. Link: https://www.mortgagelogic.news/rates/. Score on our criteria: 3/5.
5. nesto — taux hypothécaires
The page, in French, shows rates from nesto, a lender, with filters by rate type and province. It therefore shows nesto's own offers rather than a multi-lender comparison. An English page also mentions averages for the big banks. Link: https://www.nesto.ca/fr/taux-hypothecaires/. Score on our criteria: 3/5.
6. Banque Nationale — taux hypothécaires
The page, in French, presents only National Bank's rates (fixed, variable, All-In-One line), its offers, legal notes and calculators. No comparison with other institutions appears. Link: https://www.bnc.ca/particuliers/hypotheque/taux.html. Score on our criteria: 2/5.
7. Desjardins — taux hypothécaires
The page, in French, presents Desjardins' current Quebec rates. It describes fixed, variable and annually adjustable loans, pre-authorization and calculators. It does not compare other lenders. Link: https://www.desjardins.com/fr/hypotheque/taux-hypothecaires.html. Score on our criteria: 2/5.
8. Hypotheques.ca — courtier québécois
This Quebec brokerage, in French, presents itself as giving access to more than 20 lenders. It offers pre-qualification, purchase, renewal, refinancing and borrowing-capacity tools. It is not a comparative rate table. Link: https://www.hypotheques.ca/. Score on our criteria: 2/5.
9. QuebecTaux — taux hypothécaires
Our rates page is in French and needs no account, but it does not yet compare lenders. Rate capture is not finished, and we prefer bracketed placeholders to a plausible but wrong value. Criteria not met: multiple lenders and profile filters. Link: https://quebectaux.com/fr/hypotheques/taux. Score on our criteria: 2/5.
Disclosure
QuebecTaux publishes this ranking and appears in it. We applied the same criteria to everyone. We come last because our comparator is not yet live. No site paid to be listed. Some listed sites are paid by brokers or lenders. That is worth knowing, not a criticism. Pages opened on 2026-10-13. Use the contact page to tell us about any correction.
Quebec scenario: compare before you renew
A Quebec City homeowner nears renewal. He checks a multi-lender comparator and his caisse's rate page. He enters the same data (transaction type, term, insurance) and notes the date of each display. He finds that displayed rates are not always those of a real file. He then asks a lender and a broker for a written offer. The sites frame the discussion. They do not close it.
Checklist
- Use at least two sites with the same filters
- Note the date of each rate display
- Distinguish displayed rate from the rate offered on your file
- Spot sponsored or affiliated listings
- Compare identical terms (fixed against fixed)
- Check whether an account is needed to see a rate
- Ask a lender or broker for a written offer
- Weigh penalties and conditions, not just the rate
- Never quote a rate without its date and source
